Leadership

Understand the Bigger Picture

Big Picture ViewI work for a company which is in the high technology industry and one of our key delivery strategies is process orientation. Process orientation magically delivers consistency of outcomes while simultaneously driving cost out. However, if people in our industry just follow process without understanding the larger picture, the resulting trivialization could potentally cause disasters.

For example, imagine someone who is tasked with pushing software updates to a live communication network.

Competitive Advantage

Competitive AdvantageCompetitive Advantage is a subject of leadership. Managers and leaders who run enterprises need to understand competitive advantage deeply to add value to stakeholders. I saw an interesting demonstration of competitive advantage.

Taking responsibility for oneself

Leadership Requires Self MasteryIn my childhood (and sometimes even today), as an Indian, I have noticed a parental behavior that is particularly interesting. We know children are spontaneous and playful by nature. They are also highly ignorant of the many risks in normal life. Driven by curiosity and playfulness they potentially tend to walk into situations that can cause hurt.

You are what your brain allows you to be..

Iconoclaust Boot CoverIconoclausts - in layman terms these are people who think it is possible to do what most other people believe cannot be done at all. To be an iconoclaust, in addition to the above capability of being perceptive (i.e., be able to break through common beliefs), you need to be daring to tell the world about your idea (without fearing uncertain future and being ridiculed), and have social skills to be able to reach out to the right social environment to make your idea successful. This requires three parts of your brain to be differently built so that some common motivator paths are impeded and other well established.
